COMPETITIONS
Competition is part of development when the athlete is ready.
Athletes may progress from local and state events to Junior Olympics, national competition and higher-level opportunities where appropriate.
COMPETITION PATHWAY
Preparation comes before the firing point.
Competition gives athletes a place to test technical preparation, decision-making, routines and concentration under different conditions.
Not every athlete follows the same competitive path. Readiness, maturity, commitment and individual goals matter. Coaches help athletes understand event procedures, prepare equipment and routines, respond to setbacks during a match and learn from the result afterward.
Today, approximately 10–15 rifle athletes and 10–15 pistol athletes from the academy qualify for national-level competition, representing TSS and Texas at events across the country.
COMPETITION CATEGORIES
Different events serve different stages of development.
Texas State Junior Olympics
State-level Junior Olympic qualifying competition introduces athletes to formal match procedures and the national pathway.
National competitions
National-level events require more detailed preparation, travel planning, equipment checks, match routines and recovery between training and competition days.
Other competitions
Local, regional and other sanctioned events can provide valuable experience when they fit the athlete’s current training goals.
