The US Shooting Team

The US Shooting Team is composed of elite shooting athletes drawn from the best international shooters in the United States.

Members of the US Shooting Team may train at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and participate in international competition representing the United States.  The team travels to matches worldwide to compete against the best shooting athletes from other countries.  These include Continental Championships (such as the Pan-American Games), World Cups, the World Championships, and the Olympic Games.

Several members of the US Shooting Team are also members of the US Army Marksmanship Unit, headquartered at Fort Benning, Georgia.

In addition to the US Shooting Team, USA Shooting also fields a team of elite developing shooters on the US National Development Team.  The US National Development Team is often composed of junior-level shooters who have excelled in national competition and show tremendous shooting promise.  Shooters on the US National Development team receive financial and coaching support from USA Shooting on a limited basis.

Making the US Shooting Team

Individuals may compete in several National-level matches per year to try to make the US Shooting Team. In general terms, one has to place in the top 3 or 4 competitors in a Team selection match to make the team. National-level matches are held primarily at Fort Benning Army Base in Columbus, Georgia, at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. or at the Olympic Training facility at Fort Carson, Colorado (Shotgun).

Competing Internationally

Each year, a number of World Cup events are held worldwide. You must be selected by your national governing body to attend World Cup events. World Cup events match world class shooters shoulder to shoulder and also serve as a forum to win quota slots for the Olympic Games.
