Shooting Stars Excel at 2011 National Junior Olympic Championships

The 2011 USA Shooting National Junior Olympic Championships for Rifle and Pistol were held recently at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The Shooting Stars were represented by four of our state qualifiers:

  1. Taylor Gallegos (J2) (Pistol)
  2. Devin Gallegos (J1) (Rifle & Pistol)
  3. Thomas Alm (J3) (Pistol)
  4. Nathaniel Molder (J1) (Pistol)

All shooters performed well and had a great time at the Olympic Training Center.  Veteran shooter Jack DuToit traveled with the team to Colorado Springs to serve as coach during the match.

In Men’s Air Pistol, Thomas Alm (Flower Mound, Texas) took home the gold medal in the J3 age group.   Nathaniel Molder shot a score of 524 on the first day and 531 on the second day for an overall total of 1055, finishing and 18th in the J1 age group and 29th overall.

In Women’s Air Pistol, the Shooting Stars’ Taylor Gallegos (Prosper, Texas) took home the overall bronze medal, shooting a 371 the first day of competition and a 359 the second day, giving her a total of 730 and slotting her into 3rd place going into the finals.  She shot a 92.5 in finals for a total of 822.5 to retain the bronze.   Devin Gallegos finished 9th in the J1 age group and 24th overall with an total score of 665.

In Women’s Sport Pistol, Taylor Gallegos took home the gold medal for the J2 age group.  Taylor shot a score of 247 in the precision stage, and a 259 in the rapid fire stage, giving her a total of 506.  She shot an outstanding finals score of 197 to finish with an overall score of 703.0.

In Women’s Air Rifle, Devin Gallegos shot a 363 on the first day and a 373 on the second day for an overall score of 736.

Thanks to our parents and volunteers for all their help and support during NJOSC and we’re very proud of our junior team and their performances at this years NJOSC!  Great work everyone!
